As an artist I aim to take a narrative, preferably one from experience and interpret this through exploring materials such as metal, plaster and glass. A flexible approach to materials allows me to choose the most appropriate means to express my thoughts and to tell a story. As time and ability allow, I would seek to include a soundscape with my work.

The area of social history is an artistic motivation, with the emphasis of remembering stories and experiences and to keep a sense of value to those memories. My current work seeks to give artistic expression to the time worked as a student nurse working on a long stay female ward within an old asylum hospital. My aim has been to create work that uses 3D pieces and focuses on the materials and to capture these with photography to create mood and drama. The use of photography as a cataloguing process mirrors the use of this medium in documenting historic events. During my research, the loaded narrative that was evident from past photography was very moving and would be a future area to look at artistically.

Seeking materials that best express the subject matter is something I strive to do, working in an intuitive way and preferably in a studio space. Exploring a variety of  mediums and pushing them to limits can often yield interesting results, it is this unpredictability that can be artistically satisfying.
