As an artist my work gravitates towards ideas surrounding people and their personalities, history and its repetition, and culture and what I believe to be its decline. Stylistically, I am nostalgically drawn to the styles of the late 90’s and early 2000’s perhaps because that’s when I grew up. Having spent much of my life as an outsider, being a South African, home educated, Christian and conservative in a British, state educated, atheistic and liberal culture I often find myself at odds with the common perspective. My work attempts to toe the line between all these contradictions and conflicts as I continually try to express the truth that lies between ideologies and world views.

Currently my work is based mostly in installations and video as I have leaned towards more sensory and abstract styles. Previously, my work consisted mostly of cartoons and drawings which I used to grapple with ideas within politics and society. For me, the idea and aesthetics are more important than materials and mediums.

Overtime my views on the world have changed dramatically and this has been a source of inspiration and wisdom as I have grown and developed my work. I value my ability to think critically and am constantly wary of how easy it is for art to become garbage. This has led me to embrace my outsider tendencies as a form of protection against the immense mediocrity which oozes from modern life.
