What are your ‘Insignificant, significant things’?

I am drawn to objects that have little to no value but carry importance through the memories they hold. I am curious of the past life and the forgotten history behind an object; and through my work I like to explore personal treasures. This curiosity results in an interplay between themes of the uncanny and glorifying the mundane.

My work takes form through multimedia installations, this allows me to explore the objects further through form. Within these installations, I experiment with textiles, collage and film alongside sentimental objects from my life, creating personal- non personal work. These installations pay homage to the places the objects are found/stored and are often created within sheds, garages and lofts.

“I thought of that lost book and all the memories it held and how it was just one of millions of objects in the world loaded with secret history which pass hands until eventually they excite nothing more than mild curiosity or, often, complete apathy. It was like all the sadness and loneliness of life resided in these objects. I realised the moment anything loses its context it becomes a husk.”― Glenn Haybittle, The Tree House
